GRAND JUNCTION– Grand Junction houses of worship want to put safety first.
One local church safety team is spearheading the first Church Safety Networking Conference.
First Presbyterian Church held the groundbreaking meeting Wednesday, which brought together law enforcement and various church leaders.
First Presbyterian has had a safety team in place since 2016. They assembled after Homeland Security told churches nationwide that they were at risk of being victim to hate crimes.
Team members believe they can gain strength in numbers, by inviting all Grand Valley houses of worship together.
Plans to hold this conference have been underway for a while, with no connection to the recent vandalism of Two Rivers Mosque.
The next safety conference will be held on October 25th, 2019 at Livingstone Church.
