GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
On a beautiful day for football, CMU opened their home schedule against the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds.
ENMU, true to form, ran the ball, and ran a lot. (434 yards on 73 rushing attempts) The Greyhounds ate up the clock dominating the time of possession, holding it for just north of 37 minuets to CMU’s 22:53.
Not surprisingly, CMU dominated the air. Passing for 221 yards on 41 attempts. (compared to Eastern’s 127 yards on 12 attempts) Saturday’s game saw only two QBs play for CMU. Aaron Howard played the majority of snaps, completing 21 passes and threw 3 touchdowns.
Towards the end of the 3rd quarter Eastern looked to be running away with the game 37 -17. But when it came time for a gut check, the Mavs were up to the task. They scored three straight touchdowns, including the what is becoming a go-to connection of Aaron Howard to Peter Anderson to cap off the comeback.
But ultimately, it would be ENMU’s day, as an overtime six yard rush by QB Wyatt Strand sealed the game 44-37. Full stats can be seen here.
