Cow Creek Fire growing, winds lead to spot fires

OURAY COUNTY, Colo — The Cow Creek Fire is at 0% containment and continues to grow under favorable conditions.

The National Forest Service says high winds on Thursday have caused the fire to expand. The Cow Creek Fire, which nine miles east of Ridgway, is said to have grown to 655 acres over the last 24 hours.

Wind gusts carried burning embers away from the main fire, leading to three additional spot fires burning to the west of Courthouse Mountain, combining to approximately 50 acres.

Any planning to hike or hunt in the area should check with the NFS before attempting to use any trails or hunting land in the area.
