GJPD comments on statewide stay at home order

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Many Coloradans have questions about the stay at home order issued by the governor for the state of Colorado Wednesday evening.

The Grand Junction Police Department is trying to answer those questions in this ever-changing situation.

The Grand Junction Police Department emphasizes that the precautions we all have been taking in the past weeks, have prepared us for this order.

With school closures, social distancing, restricting gatherings and reducing workforce numbers, this should not drastically change anything the community is already doing.

Doctors, police officers, waste management professionals, all these critical services are still in operation.

We know there are a lot of questions and we don’t pretend to have all the answers right now. Over the next couple of days, please look to the City of Grand Junction’s website for the latest information.

Chief Doug Shoemaker, GJPD

When we asked the Grand Junction Police Department how officers will be actively enforcing this order, officials say they would rather educate citizens on why it is so important to stay home, than to punish them.
