P.I.L.T program to extend 10 years

GRAND JUNCTION– Senators Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner have introduced legislation along with a group of western senators to extend the P.I.L.T program for ten years.

P.I.L.T, or “Payment in Lieu of Taxes”, allows local governments to receive money on public lands that they cannot receive tax revenue for.

More than 70 percent of land in Mesa County is untaxable public land.

Earlier this year, the county received more than 3 million dollars in P.I.L.T payments, which is the highest amount for any county in the state.
