Shooting near 29 Road Tuesday morning



UPDATE: (4:30 PM) The shooter has been identified as Malcolm Martin, age 25, of Grand Junction. Malcolm has been arrested and remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility for offenses including Attempted 2nd Degree Murder (F3), 1st Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Vehicular Eluding, Reckless Endangerment, Child Abuse, and Reckless Driving.

(12:00 am) At about 4:20 am Tuesday, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to reports of a shooting near 29 Road and North Avenue.

A man was found in the street with injuries to his face, which were later confirmed to be gunshot wounds.

The susepct fled from the scene, officers briefly pursued. Ultimately, a vehicle crashed and the driver… our suspect, fled on foot. There were passengers in the vehicle, a female and child who fortunately were not injrued in the crash.


The victim was transported to the hospital to be treated.

Later Tuesday morning, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect near D 7/8 Road in Clifton.

Rocky Mountain Elementary School, which is in that area, was placed under a brief shelter in place during the arrest that has now been lifted.
