Rox Survive Scary Ninth Inning to get Win

An 8-1 Lead Almost Wasn't Enough

Well that was a close one. The Grand Junction Rockies had a 8-1 lead heading into the top of the ninth inning, but the Billings Mustangs scored six runs, but came up short. Rockies get the 8-7 win to improve to (16-14) on the year.

It was another solid start for the Rox as they scored two runs in the first inning.

That was complimented by a fantastic outing by Mike Ruff. Ruff went four innings, only gave up a hit, no runs, and struck out six.

There was just enough offense to get the win as Colin ‘Tank’ Simpson drove in three runs on a two-hit night.

Julio Carreras, along with three others, had two hits in the game one of them was his third homerun of the season.

Pioneer League player of the week Christian Koss had two singles, a sacrifice bunt, and scored a run in the win. He extended his hit streak to 10 games.

Grand Junction still in second place in the Pioneer League South. The Rockies will wrap up the four-game series against the Mustangs Wednesday at 6:40 p.m.
