It is Thursday and that means that there is a new drought monitor out. Some good news is that the area covered by a moderate drought or higher has decreased by 0.5%. Sadly this is only a semblance of improvement over this past week. Areas of severe drought or higher has increased to cover a total of 93.29% of the state (+20.6%). Areas of extreme drought or higher has increased to cover 36.52% of the state (+9.21%). Lastly we have an area of exceptional drought in central Kiowa County covering 0.38% of the state (+0.38%). The Drought Severity Coverage Index (DSCI) has increased by 29 (now 328 from 299). Things are looking hopeful for the future as we have some substantial rain chances today tomorrow and through the weekend which could make a positive impact for next week.
