GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KREX) — Wildfire is burning in Glenwood Springs.

The Glenwood Springs Fire Department responded to reports of a wildfire in West Glenwood at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 23. Officials have named it the Mountain Shadows Fire.

Glenwood Springs Fire Department arrived at the wildfire and found a one-acre blaze approaching structures. Firefighters coordinated with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office to evacuate the buildings.

Glenwood Springs Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from reaching any structures.

Quick action from initial attack and mutual aid resources were paramount in the surpression of this fire. The utilization of air resources gave command insight into fire behavior and helicopter bucket drops cooled hot spots so ground crews could access and extinguish as the terrain was steep.

No injuries have been reported from the incident. Officials estimated the fire to be around 4.5 acres.

The Garfield County Fire Investigation Team and Glenwood Springs Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
