It is Thursday and that means a new drought monitor has been released today. Let’s start with the good news. There has been a slight improvement as a small bubble in southeastern Colorado has decreased to a moderate drought from severe. Next is the elephant in the room. Almost all of Western Colorado is now in an extreme drought in addition to the area of extreme drought expanding out into Denver. The silver-lining in all of this is that this monitor does not factor in any rainfall data after 8 AM Tuesday, so none of the rainfall we received from Tuesday afternoon on has been factored in. With this in mind we will likely see improvement on next week’s monitor.
