Dry Conditions will be persisting through the weekend and into next week due to a strengthening upper level ridge above us .

Air Quality Advisories are in affect in Routt, Eagle, Jackson, Grand, Summit, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Pitkin, Lake, Park, northern Mesa, central/eastern Garfield, and eastern Rio Blanco counties. This weekend into the work week will be very hot with high temperatures running 5 - 10 degrees above average with some possible new records in the works. Our low temperatures will be slightly warmer than average due to the drier air but will be notably cooler than our highs. We will have mostly clear skies throughout the region. Our best storm chances will be along the higher elevations, but with the amount of precipitable water being close to an all time low measurable rainfall is unlikely. Smoke will continue to persist in the areas surrounding the wild fires. Rain deficit for Grand Junction is -2.39″. Rain deficit for Montrose is -3.88″/ Rain totals for the year should be in the 5″ & 6″ category. Stay safe in this hot and smoky weather.

This smoke is mainly affecting areas west northwest of the the fires due to the wind,but expect lingering pockets around the area. The New Drought monitor shows conditions have gotten worse for the tri-county. The smoke/haze notwithstanding, expect another mostly clear and hot day in the valley. There is a slight chance for storms in the high country. These are not expected to bring meaningful rainfall, but they should bring lightning and increase the wind gusts in the valley. For our national view, there is an upper level trough that will be moving out of the area making way for a ridge of high pressure. This ridge will keep us dry throughout the weekend and the start of the work week. On the seven day forecast we can really see the ridge increasing our temperatures.

The Western Slope continues to deal with extremely dry conditions with very little rain opportunities. Red Flag Warnings in place for a few spots today. In addition to the Red Flag Warning there is also an Air Quality Advisory for North Mesa County, Routt County, Eagle County, Central and Eastern Garfield County, and Easter Rio Blanco County. High temperatures will still be running around 5 degrees hotter than they should and low temperatures will be running just about/slightly over the average. A mostly clear sky is also in the forecast for the midday period with cloud coverage 'bookending' the early mornings and late afternoons. Regardless, any "dark sky" should still provide a viewing of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Smoke and haze will continue linger throughout the region. The best storm chance will be in San Juans each afternoon, but all of the mesas, mountains and plateaus could become the genesis for late day storms through the middle of next week. For now, Friday through Saturday has a slight uptick in showers. Rain deficit for Grand Junction is -2.33″. Rain deficit for Montrose is -3.79″/ Rain totals for the year should be in the 5" & 6″ category.
